What Rasslingo is
Rasslingo is a spoken language tutor. You talk, the app listens, an AI tutor answers out loud, corrects you and keeps a short memory of your progress so the next lesson can build on the last one.
What we store about you
- Account: the email address, name and profile picture from your Google sign-in, used to identify your account.
- Profile: what you want to be called, your mother tongue, the languages you study, your goal levels and weekly goals, and when you confirmed you are 16 or older and accepted the Terms.
- Learning memory: a short AI-written summary after each conversation: your level, strengths, recurring mistakes, words to revisit and topics covered, plus things you mention that help future lessons, such as your life, work and interests and the people you talk about (by role, like "your sister", not by name). The tutor is told not to record your health, religion, sexuality, political views or ethnicity. You can read and erase this memory in Settings.
- Vocabulary and progress: your flashcards, review history, lessons completed, mock test scores, the daily sentences made for you, and any language you asked us to add next.
- Technical logs: if a recording fails, or you tap "Test microphone" in Settings, the app sends us a short technical log (device and browser type, recording format, byte counts and the app's own status lines) so we can fix the problem. It never contains audio.
- Usage counts: how many minutes of voice, tutor replies and searches you use each day, so that plan limits work.
- Billing status: your plan, its status and renewal date, and your Paddle customer and subscription ids. Card details never reach our servers; Paddle holds them.
Settings on each device (chosen voice, speed, interface language) and the conversation you have open stay in your browser's local storage. The conversation itself is not private from us while it happens: each turn passes through our server to Anthropic so the tutor can answer, and when a session ends its transcript is sent to our server to update your learning memory. We do not keep audio or full transcripts after that.
Why we may use your data
- To provide the service you signed up for (performance of our contract with you): your account, profile, the tutor's replies and voice, your learning memory, flashcards, progress and plan.
- To keep the service secure and fair (our legitimate interests): the session cookie, daily usage counts that enforce plan limits, and the marker that ends old sign-ins after you delete your account.
- Your microphone (your consent): the app only records when you allow the microphone in your browser and hold or tap the mic. You can withdraw that permission in your browser settings at any time.
- Optional web search (your consent): your question goes to a web search only when you choose to use Ask.
Where your data goes
| Service | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Google (US) | Your sign-in | To verify who you are |
| Anthropic (Claude), US | The text of your conversation turns, your profile and learning memory, the transcript of a finished session, words you look up and questions you Ask | To generate the tutor's replies, corrections, examples, dictionary entries and memory summaries |
| ElevenLabs, US | Your recorded speech; the text the tutor says | Speech recognition and the tutor's voice |
| Paddle (Paddle.com Market Ltd, UK; payments also processed in the US) | Your email, billing address and payment details, entered in Paddle's checkout | Paddle is our merchant of record: it sells the subscription, issues the invoice, collects any tax and handles refunds |
| Wikimedia Foundation (Wiktionary), US | The word you look up in the dictionary, sent from our server | To fetch the dictionary definition |
| Anthropic's web search provider | Search terms based on your question, only when you use Ask | To find current information for the answer |
| Google Fonts, US | Your IP address and browser details when your browser downloads the font files | To show the app's fonts |
| Vercel, US | Everything above, encrypted at rest | Hosting and storage |
| Your browser's own speech service (Google or Apple) | Your speech, only if you choose Browser recognition under Ears | Speech recognition by your browser, under its maker's terms |
We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising. Our providers' terms say customer data is not used to train their models; we do not use it to train anything ourselves.
International transfers
Rasslingo is run from Thailand, and most of the providers above are in the United States, so your data is transferred to and stored in countries whose data protection law may differ from yours. Where the law requires it (for example the EU and UK GDPR or Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act), these transfers rely on standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards. Write to us for a copy.
Cookies
Our one session cookie, a signed cookie that keeps you signed in for 30 days, plus cookies set by Google Sign-In when you sign in and by Paddle's checkout when you open it. We set no tracking or advertising cookies.
How long we keep it
For as long as your account exists. Accounts with no sign-in for 24 months are deleted; we email you a warning first. Daily usage counts are deleted after 13 months. When you delete your account we keep only a one-way hash of your email address and the deletion date, so that old sign-in sessions stop working.
Short texts (under 240 characters) spoken by the tutor are cached as audio, keyed by the text and the voice, so the same sentence is not generated twice. They may contain your first name if the tutor said it. Cached audio is not linked to your account. Dictionary entries are cached by word and language in the same way and are not linked to your account either.
Your choices
- Download everything about you as one file: Settings, then Download my data.
- Forget the learning memory without closing the account: Settings, then Forget everything.
- Delete the account and every file we hold, and cancel any subscription: Settings, then Delete account. This is immediate and cannot be undone.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under Thailand's PDPA, the EU or UK GDPR, or California law), you have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you and get a copy of it.
- Correct data that is wrong or incomplete.
- Delete your data.
- Portability: receive your data in a machine-readable format (the Download my data file) and have it sent to another service.
- Restrict how we use your data while a question about it is sorted out.
- Object to uses based on our legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent at any time, for example by turning off the microphone permission or not using Ask. This does not affect what happened before.
- Complain to a supervisory authority: in Thailand the Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC); in the EU the data protection authority where you live or work; in the UK the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
To use any of these rights, write to hello@rasslingo.app. We answer within 30 days.
EU and UK representative: [to be appointed]
Children
Rasslingo is for people aged 16 and over, and paid plans also require that you are able to enter a contract where you live. We do not knowingly keep accounts for younger children; if you believe one exists, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so inside the app before the change applies.
